Work Location & Schedule:Valdez, AKThis is an exempt level position that works an urban 40-hour week or compressed work week 9/80 schedule. Relocation benefits may apply.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicant must meet or exceed these minimum job requirements to apply for this position. §         Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in chemical engineering or related field.  §         Three (3) years of experience in pipeline, refinery, or petrochemical operations;§         Strong communication skills, ability to influence across departments, agencies and stakeholders §         Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations governing process safety management (PSM) facilities§          Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License is required for travel to remote facilities
Preferences:§         Seven (7) years related work experience§         Experience with crude oil chemical and rheological properties laboratory techniques and data analysis and practical application§         Experience with process controls including distributed control systems and programmable logic controllers§         Experience with process simulation (SimSci, Hysis, Aspen, or other) §         Experience with wax deposition models (DepoWax, or other)§         Experience with pipeline hydraulic modeling, surge analysis, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD)§         Experience working in highly regulated environments§         Experience with reliability-centered maintenance and experience in predictive and preventive maintenance§         Ability to work independently and perform successfully in a team environment§         Experience in engineering for arctic and sub arctic environments§         The ability to coordinate and interact successfully with engineering contractors§          Proficient MS Office applications; additional experience with distributed control systems, PI Process Book, Business Objects, and PassPort a plus 
Accountabilities and Specific Requirements: Under general direction of the Engineering supervisor the Process/Chemical Engineer is accountable for the following: §         Providing on-site day-to-day engineering support of plant operations and maintenance activities.  This includes troubleshooting and diagnosing operational problems on a broad range of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and process systems.§         This job has the accountability to characterize operational problems, apply the engineering, analysis and reliability techniques to solve those problems, and bring definition to problems that require engineering resources from the larger engineering organization. §          Accountability for analysis and reporting on major equipment breakdowns, making recommendations to improve reliability, and review of process safety.§         Must be comfortable and competent operating in a multi-disciplinary technical environment. §         Must be able to identify and solve daily problems and to clearly articulate a problem statement and/or work scope in order to bring additional engineering resources to bear on problems. Major Deliverables §         Perform hazard analysis and risk assessments as requested§         Optimize pipeline horsepower utilization.§         Scope, study, and make recommendations for long- and short-term pipeline flow assurance challenges§         Assure high reliability of Pipeline and VMT control systems§         Investigate significant equipment failures and develop breakdown reports, incident reports, etc. §         Participate in the development and review of Safe Operating Procedures, Safe Maintenance Procedures, and Preventive Maintenance (PM) procedures as requested.§         Conduct studies/investigations and develop recommendations to improve plant efficiency and safety.§         Steward the scope development for plant modifications and improvements.  When appropriate, provide economic analysis to support funding requests.Assist in documenting and closing audits or surveillance findings

Pre-Employment Drug Screen TestingAlyeska Pipeline Service Company (APSC) requires pre-employment drug testing utilizing hair test collections for all positions. The preferred collection site is from the head (approximately 1+1/2 inches of hair length necessary).   Head hair testing provides an approximate 90 day window of detection that checks for illegal drug use.  In addition, for Department of Transportation covered positions, APSC will also utilize urinalysis testing. Any positive drug test makes you ineligible for APSC employment.
TWICAlyeska’s Valdez Marine Terminal (VMT) is a regulated facility and an employee hired to work on the VMT or to provide emergency support or other approved work for the VMT will be required to have a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).  For more information about this Federal credential access the Web site listed below.  The successful candidate for this job will be notified if a TWIC will be required and will then be responsible for enrolling and obtaining a TWIC prior to their hire date.
