Position Summary:

It is the primary responsibility of the Bookkeeper to ensure the integrity of the account sub ledgers. Tasks necessary to fulfill these requirements include the regular reconciliation of the sub ledgers to the general ledger.  

Essential job responsibilities/functions to include, but not limited to:

The following items are expected to be completed on a regular basis to fulfill the requirements of the above mentioned position: 
  1. Serve as a representative of the company, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions.
  2. Prepare reconciliations of sub ledgers to GL accounts on a monthly basis. Primary accounts to be reconciled include:
Insurance-Worker’s CompInsurance-General LiabilityInsurance-AutoNotes PayableInter-company A/R and A/P
  1. Assist in monthly closing. Duties to include:
Bank Account reconciliationA/R to Client account reconciliationA/P to General Ledger reconciliationClose jobs to costs, notify project management of closed jobs and net profit reportingMonitor deposit timeliness for tax deposits and 401(k) deposits
  1. Weekly time entry and payroll batch editing.
  2. Backup to Payroll Specialist.
  3. Assist customers (internal and external) with requests for information.
  4. Assist in batch edit and other departmental duties as necessary throughout the accounting department depending on the work flow.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Thorough understanding of accounting cycles
  2. Proficient with computer usage especially in spreadsheet software applications
  3. Ability to operate calculator ten key and computer key board
  4. Must possess the ability to work independently
  5. Must possess advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  6. Ability to communicate effectively both in written and verbal form


  1. Minimum 5 years experience in General Ledger and Accounting (Job Cost Accounting)
  2. Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  3. College-level accounting courses preferred, but not required if experience is sufficient
  4. Proficient with computer usage especially in spreadsheet software applications

Working Conditions:

Work involves near continuous use of computer terminal and may require sitting for extended periods.  Some overtime may be required. Physical Restrictions:May require light physical effort such as stooping, bending, reaching and occasional lifting of lightweight objects (up to 25 pounds).
