POSITION SUMMARY:            Position Title:  Financial Specialist             Salary Range:  $20/hr, 20 hours a week

            Term: Permanent, includes the following paid

INTRODUCTION:This position is located at the Ugashik Traditional Village (UTV) administrative offices in Anchorage, Alaska and is supervised by the Tribal Manager.  Ugashik Traditional Village Council (UTVC) is the governing entity on behalf of the village of Ugashik, Alaska.  Ugashik Traditional Village’s governing body consists of five Council members.   QUALIFICATIONS:1.  Experience with QuickBooks Pro 2010.            2.. Excellent writing, communications and computer skills.            3.  Ability to work independently, with general supervision.            4.. Able to complete a complex variety of tasks in an organized manner.MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Must be familiar with Fund Accounting for a Tribal Government.  This position reports directly to the UTV Tribal Manager.  Work responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:
  • Review all invoices for appropriate documentation, approval prior to payment.
  • Reconcile income and expenses to appropriate grant.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll, accounts payables and income in Quickbooks.
  • Reconcile bank statements and process credit card payments.
  • Process Quarterly payroll tax reports and make payments.
  • Process employee travel advances in compliance with UTV travel policy and federal per diem rates.
  • 1099 maintenance.
  • Reconcile vendor statements, research and correct discrepancies.
  • Develop and present accurate monthly financial reports and bank balances to council.
  • Provide tribal manager with accurate quarterly financial reports for each grant.
  • Work with tribal manager to ensure all grant expenditures are in compliance with grant agreements/contracts.
  • Provide input for development of budgets and other management issues.
  • Make corrective entries into Quickbooks.
  • Maintain employee annual and sick leave balances in compliance with personnel policy.
  • Oversee paper filing system in the accounting department.
  • Audit preparation including but not limited to:  developing a detailed list of UTV’s receivables and accounts payables and other requests made by auditor.
  • Work with auditor with adjusting entries and other requests to finalize audit.
Familiar with various BIA 93-638, IGAP and other grant programs.                   SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:The Tribal Manager defines overall objectives and priorities of Office personnel and assists employee with unusual assignments.  Tribal Manager occasionally spot-checks work for accuracy, completeness, adequacy and compliance with established procedures.  PHYSICAL DEMANDS:                                                                                                                  The work is mostly sedentary and requires no special physical demands; may occasionally be required to move/lift file boxes.WORK ENVIRONMENT:                                                                                                               The work environment involves the normal risks, comforts, and discomforts typical of an office setting. Interested applicants are to fill out Ugashik Traditional Village’s employment application and submit to:  Ugashik Traditional Village                         206 East Fireweed Lane, Suite 204                         Anchorage, Alaska  99503Phone:  907-338-7611, Fax 338-7659, Email: Website:
