Established pursuant to the Alaska Native Claims Act of 1971, Haida Corporation has over 700 shareholders, and is headquartered in Hydaburg, on Prince of Wales Island, in Southeast Alaska. Haida Corporation is a diversified company, involved in natural resources, forest products, hydroelectric generation, and construction. It is managed by a 7-person Board of Directors, each of whom brings years of experience in diverse fields, including construction, commercial fishing, business development, cultural heritage preservation, community health and law. Overview of PositionThe General Manager (GM) reports directly to the Chairmen of the Board and President of Haida Corporation and is responsible for managing and monitoring operations of Haida Corporation and subsidiaries, insuring effective completion and efficiency in time, hours and costs. The GM assists in business development, contract negotiations, and training to staff as needed or requested. This individual must have the skills to work well with diverse groups of people in varying fields, skill levels, and professions, in remote locations and under stressful conditions. The GM must be able to establish and maintain professional relationships with all subcontractors and clients. The GM must also work exceptionally well with any joint venture. Above all, the GM must possess a professional persona demonstrating diplomacy, tact and respect for all individuals. Qualifications and Experience
Duties and ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the overall management of the day to day business of the corporation, its subsidiaries and the projects under contract. Carry out the mission of the corporation of preserving and increasing the wealth of the corporation for the future. Plan and manage the work force of the corporation. Responsible for budget development, presentation of the budget to, and control of budget approved by, the Board of Directors. Works with the subsidiaries to maintain an accurate job budgeting process and provides timely and accurate financial information. Implements programs to maximize the employment of qualified shareholders within the corporation and works to increase the skills of qualified employee shareholders. Provides monthly activity reports to the Board of Directors on the status of the corporation and its projects. Other duties as assigned by the Haida Corporation Board. Employment Status and Salary Exempt Employee. Salary negotiated depending on experience and demonstrated ability.
