Marine Geophysicist, Palmer Alaska TerraSond is seeking a Marine Geophysicist for its Palmer, Alaska office located at 1617 S. Industrial Way Ste 3, Palmer, AK 99645. The Marine Geophysicist will be involved in costing, mobilizing, acquiring, processing, analyzing and reporting on marine geophysical projects. This position is a full time non-exempt position based in Palmer, Alaska and requires residence within a daily commuting distance to the Palmer office. Relocation assistance is not available. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: •Collect and interpret geophysical data including but not limited to data collected with sub-bottom profilers, magnetometers, gradiometers, high resolution seismic including boomers and sparker systems, ground penetrating radar, sidescan sonar, multibeam and singlebeam sonar, cone penetrometers, gravity meters, digital streamer/air gun arrays and other instruments used to assess the character and physical location of the ground or seafloor and subsurface features •Analyze project goals, plan collection methods, determine suitable geophysical equipment for achieving project goals, install and operate equipment, interpret resultant data •Analyze and interpret geological and geophysical information from sources such as survey data as part of a hydrographic or land survey team •Analyze and process data using project specified software packages •Oversee and approve Quality Assurance and Quality Control of collected and processed geophysical data •Research and provide required geophysical data to plan survey operations •Write and proof project descriptive reports Job Specifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • ·Working knowledge of personal computers including word processing, database, and spreadsheetapplications • ·Comprehensive knowledge of multiple types of geophysical data to include electromagnetics,seismic (sonar), and gravity • Working understanding of geodesy and coordinate systems • ·Basic inversion theory • ·Ability to plan and execute projects from start to finish. Required Background and Experience • ·BS in Geophysics; • MS in Geophysics strongly preferred • Minimum of 5 years of field experience to include experience mobilizing and operating geophysicalsystems, offshore survey operations, and geophysical data processing and interpretation. • Experience functioning as a field lead• Extensive background in mathematics to include arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications • ·Candidate must be legally eligible and insurable to drive to regular assignments • Knowledge of Alaska and Federal permitting issues preferredWork is performed in a combination of an office and a field environment. Field work is performed outdoors and may take place in inclement weather and extreme temperatures. Hydrographic survey work requires working at sea for extended periods of time and may require living and working in close, cramped quarters. Both field and office work requires occasional heavy lifting of survey equipment. Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, long days, and evening/weekend hours in order to meet deadlines. Extensive travel is required.
